Sr. Cloud & Security Operations Engineer

Position Type: Remote, Full-time

Range: $90-110K annually

Job Description:

Keyfive builds energy intelligence solutions for power systems, microgrids, and large-load manufacturing, helping operators, OEMs, and industrial customers turn raw electrical data into actionable insight. Our distributed U.S.-based team runs secure, cloud-native platforms at the intersection of OT and IT. We’re hiring a Senior Cloud & Security Operations Engineer to own and evolve our cloud infrastructure, security posture, and SOC 2 operations across AWS, Azure, and internal IT.

Key Responsibilities:

Security, Compliance & SOC 2

  • Lead day-to-day SOC 2 operations, evidence collection, and control implementation.

  • Maintain and improve security policies, access controls, SSO/MFA, and asset inventory.

  • Support audits, customer security reviews, and questionnaires.

Cloud Infrastructure & Operations

  • Design and operate secure, highly available AWS/Azure environments for energy data and analytics.

  • Manage infrastructure as code, networking, VPNs, and secure site-to-cloud connectivity.

  • Own backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity for critical services.

Internal IT & SaaS Management

  • Manage IdP/SSO and endpoint security (MDM, patching, encryption).

  • Standardize onboarding/offboarding and periodic access reviews.

  • Administer key SaaS tools used across engineering and operations.

Observability & Incident Response

  • Implement centralized logging, metrics, and alerting.

  • Help run on-call, incident response, and post-incident reviews.

  • Drive continuous improvements in security, reliability, and operability

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, or equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, security engineering, or related roles.

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure (networking, compute, storage, IAM).

  • Solid understanding of security best practices: least privilege, network segmentation, encryption, key management, and secrets management.

  • Practical experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, or similar security frameworks (implementing controls, gathering evidence, working with auditors).

  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Bicep, ARM, CloudFormation).

  • Experience operating CI/CD pipelines and integrating security checks into the software delivery lifecycle.

  • Comfortable administering GitHub (or similar) in a multi-team environment.

  • Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and observability platforms (e.g., CloudWatch, Application Insights, ELK, Prometheus/Grafana, etc.).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a bias toward automation over manual work.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.

  • Eagerness to learn and continuously improve our security and operations practices in the context of energy and industrial systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience owning or significantly contributing to a SOC 2 Type II program at a SaaS or industrial/energy-tech company.

  • Experience with SCADA, EMS, DCS, historian systems, or integrations at industrial plants, data centers, or large-load manufacturing sites.

  • Experience with OT/IT boundary concerns (e.g., segmented networks, DMZs, secure site-to-cloud connectivity, zero-trust concepts).

  • Hands-on work with container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, AKS, EKS) and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, Event Hubs).

  • Familiarity with time-series databases and streaming data architectures common in power systems and industrial monitoring.

  • Exposure to microgrids, demand response, or energy optimization platforms.

  • A passion for learning new technologies and helping ensure that critical energy and manufacturing systems run securely, reliably, and efficiently.D) pipelines.
